chelsea harbour cafe

The client

A café situated in the heart of Chelsea Harbour serving good food made from the finest ingredients.

The requirements

The design for this café is to provide a multi-purpose environment being a café by day and a venue for social events in the evening, and creating a comfortable surrounding within the space at all times. As well as designing the interior, an identity had to be created.

The solution

The branding developed for NOSH mirrors the sophisticated simple design that was hoped to achieve. An integral aspect of the design was to ensure that the ergonomics were adhered to without compromising on style. This contemporary space includes an area for table, bar and comfortable seating as well as a counter service for takeaways. Clever planning has exceeded the minimum number of covers that was required yet still providing enough space for disabled access. Table seating was positioned carefully around the space in order to create a good traffic flow for staff and customers. The space on the terrace provides more table seating, allowing people to enjoy the weather on good days. The existing windows have been changed into french doors maximising the use of natural light.

The furniture and window treatments chosen for the space, match the clean simple design. The counter service bar was designed to create the most distinctive wow factor. With its red façade and chocolate colour surround, the bar is enhanced with its internal light making it unique to entice people in. Beautiful amber glass pendants hung above the counter shelf at low level in line, compliment the front of the bar. Matching wall lights create continuity and downlighters provide general lighting. The clever use of adaptable lighting creates an appealing feel throughout the space, evoking a dramatic atmosphere when appropriate.

The response

This clever and stylish design resulted in a feature of the 'House & Garden' Magazine October 2005.
